The new year of Pavimaro Pallacanestro Molfetta begins with a defeat, which fails to return to the away success in Ragusa where the red and white, despite numerous absences, fight for forty minutes and yield in the final with the score of 94-88.

Coach Gesmundo has to give up Mentonelli and Kekovic and starts the game by deploying Villa, Tassone, Scali, Bini and Infante. Coach Bocchino responds with Chessari, Picarelli, Canzonieri, Da Campo and Rotondo. After a balanced start to the game, Molfetta tries the first extension of the day with Scali’s baskets and a triple from Tassone (17-24) but the hosts, led by Stefanini and Picarelli, respond blow by blow, closing the first quarter 23-26.

Ten points in a row by Chessari open the partial of the second period, bringing the inertia of the match to the side of the hosts (37-30). Infante tries to shake up his team but the consecutive triples of Da Campo and Picarelli lead the two teams to the long interval on a score of 53-41.

The start of the third period follows the trend of the previous one, with the hosts of Virtus Kleb Ragusa who, thanks to an unleashed Da Campo, reach the maximum advantage of the evening (59-45). However, the red and white are not there and a partial of 12-22 signed entirely by Tassone, Scali and Bini brings the two teams back into contact before Picarelli’s free throws that close the fourth on a score of 73-67.

The last portion of the game opens with four points in a row by Villa that bring Pavimaro Molfetta back to only two lengths away (73-71) but the usual Chessari and Da Campo allow the new Ragusano extension (80-73). In the moment of greatest difficulty Scali and Villa climb back to the chair, allowing the red and white to make contact again, but Da Campo definitively closes the match. The final at PalaPadua is 94-88 for Virtus Kleb Ragusa.

Next match for the red and white on Sunday 16th January at PalaPoli against Virtus Arechi Salerno, match valid for the 15th and last day of the first round.
