No racist insults before the game was abandoned in Duisburg

IAccording to the police, the investigation into an alleged racist insult against an Osnabrück soccer player in the third division game in Duisburg has not confirmed the allegations. The state protection of the Duisburg criminal police has provisionally concluded the investigation into a spectator at the game of MSV against VfL in December. The police announced on Thursday. Several media such as the “Neue Ruhr Zeitung” had previously reported on it.

The message said: “It could be clarified that the 55-year-old suspect shouted, ‘You monkey can’t shoot a corner either’ and presumably meant the player Florian Kleinhansl and not Aaron Opoku.” Police did not confirm the suspicion that monkey sounds were being imitated in the stands.

State security had previously evaluated video recordings and heard players, referees, spectators and folders, the message said.

The file has now been handed over to the public prosecutor. There it was initially only said that the documents had been received. A spokeswoman announced on request that the case would be examined and then publicly commented.

The investigations started after a police report because the 55-year-old Duisburger Opoku was said to have been racially insulted. The referee stated that there were also monkey noises. The incident had caused horror far beyond football circles. The game was canceled at that time.
