NFL: Titans beat Texans to secure 1st place in American

HOUSTON — Ryan Tannehill matched a career high with four touchdown passes as the Tennessee Titans secured first place in the AFC by beating the Houston Texans 28-25 on Sunday.

By virtue of their 12-5 record, the Titans will finish No. 1 in the All-American for the third time since leaving Houston (1997 and 2008) and will enjoy a first-round bye in the series.

Tannehill threw three touchdown passes in the second quarter to put the Titans up 21-0 at halftime.

The Texans (4-13), however, came to life in the second half, scoring 18 unanswered points to come within three points of their opponents. Julio Jones, however, caught his first touchdown pass of the season to give the Titans a 10-point lead.

Houston’s squad again narrowed the gap to three points when Danny Amendola’s second reception for a major made it 28-25 with over four minutes to go.

The Titans got a first down and they clocked out the final seconds to confirm their win.

Tannehill’s strong showing comes after he had four interceptions in his last start against the Texans on Nov. 21. On Sunday, he completed 23 of 32 passes for 287 yards.

Quarterback Davis Mills had 301 passing yards and three touchdowns. He finished the season with 2,604 yards through the air, which put him ahead of David Carr (2,592) for the most in team history in a rookie season.

Jefferson short of Randy Moss’ record

The Vikings ended a disappointing season with a 31-17 win over the Bears in Minneapolis.

Justin Jefferson passed for 107 yards, in addition to registering his 10e touchdown of the season. The Vikings’ star receiver ends the season with 1,616 receiving yards, 17 yards shy of a new franchise record. The team mark of 1,632 yards therefore still belongs to Randy Moss.

The Vikings defense was brilliant in the game, prompting two turnovers and collecting seven quarterback sacks. Patrick Peterson scored a defensive touchdown on a 66-yard interception return.

In the loss, receiver Darnell Mooney set career-highs for receptions with 12 and for yards with 126.

An end to the image of the Giants season

Antonio Gibson rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown in the Washington Football Team’s 22-7 win over the New York Giants.

The running back was the offensive star of the game and the day was once again painful for the New York team. Jake Fromm completed 15 of 31 passes for 103 yards, a touchdown pass and had two interceptions.

The Giants finish last in the NL East Division with a 4-13 record this season. It will be necessary to follow in the next few days if changes will occur in the staff and what will be the position of head coach of Joe Judge.

Washington completed its regular schedule with a 7-10 record.

Chase breaks team record in Game 17

Ja’Marr Chase took advantage of the 17e Cincinnati Bengals’ season game to break the team record for most yards for a receiver in a 21–16 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

The rookie receiver capped off a stellar season with a meager 26 yards, but it was still enough to beat Chad Johnson’s mark set in 2007 when he finished with 1,440 yards. With one more game played this season, Chase finished with 1,455 yards.

Brandon Allen was at quarterback for the Bengals who were assured of the North Division title in the American. He recorded 136 yards and threw a touchdown pass.

Without Baker Mayfield, Case Keenum had 176 yards and two touchdown passes against an interception for the Browns. D’Ernest Johnson rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown.

The Browns finished the season with an 8-9 record while the Bengals are in the playoffs with a 10-7 record.
