NBA star rejects corona vaccination: “It’s been my decision for a long time”

Basketball-Profi Kyrie Irving will not be vaccinated against the corona virus. The star of the National Basketball League (NBA) reiterated this after his Brooklyn Nets lost 107:114 to the Cleveland Cavaliers. “It was my decision long ago and I stand by it,” said Irving. However, the decision has consequences for Irving (29), as he cannot play in home games of the Nets due to the applicable laws in New York.

Due to numerous failures, the Nets recently decided to use Irving at least in away games. Previously, the Nets did without Irving. Even the week-long absence of his teammate Kevin Durant did not change his attitude towards the corona vaccination. The Nets may be missing Durant until the end of February. “Kev will be fine. Kev will be fine and we have to deal with that as his teammates,” said Irving. “But as far as my life outside of all this goes, I stand firm in my decision. That’s just how it is.”

He also does not understand that his decision in connection with basketball is constantly being questioned, said Irving. He stressed how much he enjoys playing for the Nets and with his peers, “but I’ve been gone long enough to be able to think about all this, to process it and to be able to make this decision, I remain strong”.

With Irving, Durant and James Harden, the Nets have three of the best players in the league under contract and are therefore considered title contenders. However, the limited availability of Irving and now Durant’s injury is causing trouble for the team. Despite losing to the Cavaliers, the team is still in contention at the top of the Eastern Conference.
