The football East mourns Gerd Schädlich!

The successful coach died on Saturday night at the age of 69 after a long, serious illness. BILD learned this from those close to Schädlich.

Schädlich first made a name for itself throughout Germany in the 1990s. In 1994 he managed to get promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with FSV Zwickau. In the 1995/96 season, Schädlich just missed promotion to the 1st Bundesliga with FSV in fifth place.

After his stints at FC Sachsen Leipzig and in Hoyerswerda, Schädlich moved to Erzgebirge Aue in 1999. The ambitious and meticulous coach also led the violets to the second division in 2003.

After retiring from Aue in December 2007, Schädlich took over Chemnitzer FC for the 2008/09 season, which he led from the regional league to the third division in 2011. In October 2013, the football teacher resigned from CFC and ended his coaching job. Schädlich then worked as a scout for Hallesche FC.
