Pako Hento (full name Francisco Hento Lopez) passed away at the age of 88.

Hento began his football career in 1952, representing Santander for one season, after which he spent 18 seasons with Real Madrid.

With Real, the midfielder won 23 different trophies, which was a record for the Madrid Club until Sunday – the 23rd trophy career two days ago was also won by Real captain Marseille (Marseille Vieira da Silva Junior), triumphing in the Spanish Super Cup.

“Pako Hento is the only player in history to have triumphed in the European Cup (now the UEFA Champions League) six times,” Real said in a statement on Tuesday. “Madrid fans and football fans around the world will always remember him as one of the greatest players.”

During his career, Hento played 600 games, scoring 182 goals.

The Spaniard is considered one of the greatest players of his time. In the “Real” ranks, the left-back midfielder played alongside lights such as Alfredo di Stefano, Raimonds Kopa and Ferenc Puškás.

In the Spanish national team, Hento played 43 games from 1955 to 1969 and scored five goals.

After di Stefano’s death in 2014, Hento also became Honorary President of Real.
