Finding a place to park in the city at certain times is not easy. The opening today of a parking lot near the hospital center could make life easier for motorists.
“We had to find the place, come to an agreement with the seller, go to the notary … It is already several months of work prior to the purchase. Work with the design office follows”, explains Bernard Lamotte, first deputy mayor in charge of finance and town planning. One of the characteristics requested was that it be vegetated.
To do this, we find lawns on the sites as well as trees which are only the beginnings of planting which may take place in the spring. Underground, the rainwater collection network opens onto the avenue Augustin-Malroux network. “We had to look for electricity for lighting”, underlines the elected official who specifies: “We also met the residents of the small path to talk about the drawbacks and find solutions.”
After more than a year, the parking lot opens today.
This new car park – which is now at the final finishing stage – will make it possible to remedy the difficulties encountered in parking in Place Viala, located opposite the main entrance to the hospital center. In this sector, the blue zone should be reduced to two hours so that visits and consultations at the hospital can be done in all serenity. This new car park, equipped with a surveillance camera, can also be used to park near the calendreta del Pastel, a school located nearby.
Concerning the car park of the Maison de la Musique, which also desert the boxing, archery, fencing and dance halls, the municipality has acquired 700m2 of land and an adjoining building. “We hope that this will eventually give 25 parking spaces”, confides Bernard Lamotte. For the time being, no timetable is yet definitively planned. Other operations of this type are planned in two sectors of the city center to increase parking capacity.
