Latvian biathletes do not qualify for the European Sprint Championship

Latvian biathlete Rūdis Balodis took the 69th place in the ten-kilometer sprint distance of the European Championship in Germany on Friday and was the best of Latvian athletes.

Renārs Birkentāls took the two places below Balodi in the men’s competition, but Kirill Matjuhins took the 85th place.

The victory was won by the Norwegian Erland Bontegar, who shot flawlessly and finished in 26 minutes and 39.4 seconds. The second place was taken by Russian athlete Nikita Porshnev, who did not make a mistake in the shooting, but was 20.6 seconds behind the winner, but the top three was closed by the German Lucas Fratcher, making one mistake in the second shooting and losing 22.9 seconds.

The pigeon was inaccurate only once in the second shot, but the Norwegian conceded for three minutes and 25.6 seconds.

Birkental, who finished in 71st place, made one mistake in the first shot and two in the second, resulting in three minutes and 35.7 seconds slower than the winner.

Matjuhin, meanwhile, made the 85th place in the second shot, four minutes and 13.5 seconds behind the winner.

Latvian athletes remained outside the best of the sixties and will not start driving on Saturday.

In the women’s competition Annija Keita Sabule took the 80th place in the 7.5 kilometer sprint, Inese Golubeva took the 97th place, but Līva Šahno took the 101st place.

Sabule occasionally made a mistake in both shooting reclining and shooting upright, ranking 80th. She was three minutes and 48.7 seconds behind the winning Norwegian Rangnhill Femsteinevika.

Golubeva took 97th place with a shooting similar to Sabule’s, with Femsteinevika losing five minutes and 50.8 seconds.

Shahno, on the other hand, did not hit the target three times in the first line of fire, but in her second account there were four more “poodles” in her second account, which allowed her to take the 101st place seven minutes and 45.3 seconds behind the Norwegian biathlete.

Latvian biathletes did not qualify for Saturday’s running competition, where the 60 best sprint participants will start.

Femsteinevik shot all ten goals and spent 21 minutes and 52.7 seconds in the distance.

The Norwegian was 3.7 seconds ahead of the German Francis Hildebrand, who also shot accurately, but 25.9 seconds ahead of another German athlete, Janin Hethich, who once made a mistake while shooting upright.
