The operating company of the basketball B2 league, Kumamoto Volters, has decided to open a new arena in 2026.
The construction site will be decided around this spring.
The B-League of domestic men’s professional basketball introduced the “new B1 standard” in the season four years later.
One of the conditions for belonging to the top league “B1” is to open a home arena that can accommodate more than 5,000 people.
In response to this, Kumamoto Basketball Co., Ltd., which operates the Kumamoto Volters, decided to build a new arena in 2026.
Regarding candidate sites, we will hold discussions with multiple local governments such as Kumamoto City and Tamana City, and plan to narrow down to one site by April.
According to the people concerned, the construction cost of the new arena is expected to be 5 to 8 billion yen, and the maximum capacity is expected to be 8,000.
After completion, we plan to design it so that it can be used not only for Volters games, but also for shelters and large-scale concerts in the event of a disaster.

“Kumamoto is in the middle of Kyushu, so it’s easy to get together from Kyushu. I think access is absolutely necessary.”
“The conditions that each local government has come up with are different, and the issues have not yet been identified.
There are some places, so I’m hoping that it will be decided around March and April in the spring. “
