FC Bayern extends the contract with Kingsley Coman. The Munich-based company is setting an example in the transfer competition with top international clubs. Coman himself has a special wish for the premier class.
Mith the illuminated towers of the Munich Frauenkirche in the background, Kingsley Coman smiled all over his face. In the midst of CEO Oliver Kahn and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic, the 2020 Champions League final scorer held the red jersey with his new contract term with FC Bayern in the cameras: 2027.
The German record champions have prematurely extended the contract with their French offensive star for another four years and set a strong example in the transfer competition with top international clubs. “Clubs around the world are looking for players with the skills of Kingsley Coman. This contract extension is another example of how attractive our club is on an international top level, ”said CEO Kahn. “Kingsley fully identifies with FC Bayern, he has found his sporting home here.”
The Munich team had loaned the French from Juventus Turin for two years in the summer of 2015 and then signed a firm contract until the end of June 2020. With the heirs of Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben, the Munich-based company quickly extended the contract to the summer of 2023 – and now even to 2027. A longer-dated working paper has no Munich star. And no other player in the Bundesliga either.
“I’m very happy because FC Bayern is one of the best clubs in the world and I know that we still have a lot of opportunities and big goals here. I’ve been with the club since 2015 – it feels like a big family. Everything is perfect here, ”said Coman, who has won the championship six times, the DFB Cup three times and the Supercup five times with FC Bayern.
Goal in the final of the Champions League
The national player has immortalized himself in the Bavarian history books with his winning goal in the 2020 premier class final in Lisbon. With his header to 1-0 against Paris Saint-Germain, Coman became a goal hero – just like Robben once did in the 2013 final at Wembley. “My best years as a footballer are still ahead of me, and I’m happy that I’ll be spending them at FC Bayern. My biggest goal is to win the Champions League again – and this time, please, together with our fans, ”said Coman, referring to the Corona tournament without spectators in Lisbon.
For a while, the 25-year-old and the Munich resident had clearly diverged when it came to salary expectations. Top clubs such as Chelsea, FC Barcelona and Manchester City are said to have been among the potential buyers. With his signature, Coman, who is currently continuing his individual training after a corona infection, should move up to the expanded group of top earners around Manuel Neuer and Robert Lewandowski.
“Over the past six and a half years, he has developed into a world class player with us. With his goal in the 2020 Champions League final, he has already made history and now has the great opportunity to shape an era, “said sports director Salihamidzic, whose agenda also includes the contract extension with Coman’s wing partner Serge Gnabry (2023).
“Our goal is for FC Bayern to remain competitive among the top European players in the coming years,” assured Salihamidzic, who had already tied Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka to the club for a long time last year. A “strong foundation” has now been laid for this.
