Kieft breaks lance for Ihattaren: ‘Shows poor guidance from Raiola’

Wim Kieft lashed out at Mino Raiola. According to the analyst and former striker, poor guidance is one of the reasons that Mohamed Ihattaren’s career is in danger of falling between two stools.

Kieft also read Ihattaren’s interview in De Telegraaf and states in his column in the same newspaper that he understands the attacking midfielder. ‘I am not surprised that he was left to his own devices at Sampdoria, as he says. That is often the fate that strikes you when you end up at smaller Italian clubs. It shows bad guidance from Mino Raiola that he let a 19-year-old go from PSV to Juventus on the last transfer day from PSV and send them directly to Genoa.’

Nevertheless, the columnist thinks that Ihattaren can also be blamed for a few things. He should never have given up so quickly. ‘In those countries it is normal that you have to wait two or three months for your salary. In addition, it must come from within yourself to want to succeed somewhere and to put everything aside for that. Then you don’t just walk away when things go wrong. That gives you the idea that someone doesn’t know what top football means.’

The career and problems surrounding Ihattaren are described by Kieft as a ‘sad story’. ‘Ihattaren is now training with Gerald Vanenburg, but if that boy doesn’t see the light himself, it won’t work. Whoever interferes with him. Of course everyone is willing to help him. That also applied to Toon Gerbrands and John de Jong, the two directors at PSV. And it’s not like Ihattaren looks well-trained at the moment. You can hardly blame your supervisors for that.’
