Jon Rahm’s ‘tour de force’ to kick off the season

Jon Rahm starts this Thursday a tour de force of four tournaments of the PGA Tour in five weeks. The first of them is him American Express, at the Stadium Course in La Quinta (California), event that incidentally won in 2018 when it was called Carrer Builder Challenge and whose last participation was in 2019.

After playing the Tournament of Champions two weeks ago, and now there is the Amex, Jon will complete the Pacific Tour playing the Farmers Insurance Open in Torrey Pines, San Diego, January 26-29, the Phoenix Open (10-13 febrero) very close to his home in Scottsdale (Arizona) and the Genesis Invitational in Riviera (Los Angeles), from February 17 to 20. The only tournament in the Pacific that he will not play is the AT&T Pebble Beach, in Monterey, California, from February 3-6.

Five tournaments in seven weeks to start the year and to certify the good feelings of the Tournament of Champions, where he finished second with 33 under par, fighting for victory until the end.

“My goal this 2022 is to surpass what I achieved last year. It’s always like that, trying to improve every year. But it’s difficult. I had a consistent 2021 with a win. I could say right now that I would gladly accept less consistency and more than one win. It all depends on how you categorize things. At the end of the year I will be able to tell you what I think. In this sport it is difficult to win, only one does it, so you cannot think that finishing second is losing”, affirms the world number 1.

And in addition to winning tournaments, he has in mind the challenge of maintaining Number 1. “Yes, well, it’s something you have to earn. I mean, I’m Number One because of how I played in the past, so if I want to stay that way I have to keep playing at the same level and try to improve. I focus on myself, I try to improve my golf. If I can do it, everything else will go by itself. I hope to win a tournament”, adds the man from Barrika.

It will be Rahm’s fourth participation in the American Express (34th in 2017, win in 2018 and 6th in 2019).

Also enrolled at La Quinta among others are Patrick Cantlay, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Justin Rose and Scottie Scheffler.
