Jon Lester announces his retirement after 16 years

Every athlete always ends up having to say goodbye to the discipline they love, and today, according to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, Jon Lester, has announced his retirement as a professional baseball player, after a successful 16-year career in Major League Baseball (MLB)

Lester, 38, a left-handed pitcher, played for the Boston Red Sox from 2006 to 2014, with the Oakland Athletics the 2014/2015 season, and from 2015 to 2020 with the Chicago Cubs, before spending the 2021 season among the Washington Nationals and the Saint Louis Cardinals, where his career ended.

Helped the Red Sox win 2 World series, one in 2007, and one more in 2013, in addition to being part of the World Series that the Cubs won in 16, ending a 108-year title drought for Chicagoans.

His greatest achievement

Without a doubt, his greatest success was having overcome a lymphoma, which is a type of cancer of the lymphatic system, responsible for helping the body fight germs.

After beating cancer, Lester went on to be one of the best pitchers of his generation, having won 3 World Series as mentioned above, having been selected 5 times. All Star, MVP of the Championship Series of the National League in 2016, and leader in wins of the 2018 season.

To make matters worse, Lester launched a no hit or run game on May 19, 2008, when he wore the Red Sox jersey.

I worked for 4 years and 5 months in the Sports section of the Printed Newspaper in Culiacán, covering various disciplines, being assigned to the source of Caballeros de Culiacán of CIBACOPA.
