IOC – Mourning Carrard – Sport

The International Olympic Committee mourns the loss of its former General Director Francois Carrard. As the IOC announced, the Swiss sports official, who held the post at the association from 1989 to 2003, died on Sunday at the age of 83 in his hometown of Lausanne. During his 14-year tenure, Carrard worked under Presidents Juan Antonio Samaranch and Jacques Rogge. He was involved in the development of the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) and the introduction of the first World Anti-Doping Code. As of 2015, Carrard was commissioned by the world football association Fifa to deal with the bribery scandals.
