Garuda Youth Debut Stage

The match against Timor Leste was also the debut match for two young players, namely Marselino Ferdinand and Ronaldo Kwateh. The two players who are both 17 years old entered as substitutes in the second half.

Ronaldo entered first at half-time before the second half replacing Ramai Rumakiek. Meanwhile, Marselino Ferdinand came on to replace Evan Dimas Darmono in the 66th minute.

Both immediately contributed to the team. Ronaldo Kwateh donated one assist to Ricky Kambuaya who scored the equalizer in the 65th minute.

Meanwhile, Marselino Ferdinand has not yet listed his name on the scoreboard. However, the Persebaya Surabaya attacking midfielder shot two kicks on goal and was actively involved in the Garuda squad’s attack scheme.

After the match, Shin Tae-yong gave his appreciation to the two. He said both of them had shown a real contribution that led Indonesia to turn things around after falling behind in the first round.

“Indeed Ronaldo and Marcelino entered in the second half. Ronaldo came in from the start of the second half, Marselino only came in a few minutes after the second half,” said the South Korean coach.

“After these two players entered the game the team was better,” said Shin Tae-yong added.

In addition, Shin Tae-yong also saw these two players showing a determination as professionals. That becomes a plus in the eyes of the coach.

“I can really feel it, the players have to have thirst and hunger in a game,” he said.

Shin Tae-yong Kecewa

Although the Indonesian national team won, Shin Tae-yong was not satisfied with the game his students played.

The South Korean coach was very disappointed with the appearance of Evan Dimas et al in the first round.

If he continues to play like that, Shin Tae-yong considers Indonesia difficult to become the strongest team in Southeast Asia.

“Indeed from the score point of winning 4-1, but very disappointing for today’s match (yesterday),” said Shin Tae-yong.

“I think the performance of the first half should be evaluated. With a performance like this, we will not be a strong team in Southeast Asia,” he said.

“All players must evaluate. I will try not to happen a second time,” said Shin Tae-yong.

Furthermore, Shin Tae-yong admitted that he already knows what needs to be improved from the Indonesian national team for the second match against Timor Leste on Sunday (30/1/2022).

“I will try more so that there is a good development. Maybe I have to improve the mentality of the players, so this match is not satisfactory,” said Shin Tae-yong.
