Ibiza presents its candidacy to host the European sub-15 badminton

Yesterday, the Sports Department of the Consell de Ibiza communicated to the Spanish Badminton Federation its support for the island of Ibiza to host the U-15 European Badminton Championship to be held in the second half of 2022.

The Minister of Finance, Economic Management, Sports and Youth, Salvador Losa, met yesterday with the president of the Spanish Badminton Federation, Andoni Arzumendi, with the technical director Ernesto García and with the president of the Balearic Federation, the Ibizan Silvia Riera , to which he conveyed the importance of Ibiza hosting this tournament given that it complies “with three of the axes that drive the current sports policies of the Consell: the promotion of grassroots sports, the renovation of sports facilities and the promotion of Ibiza as a sports tourism destination.

Losa argued that “a competition of these characteristics will highlight the recently renovated island facilities of sa Blanca Dona, in which the latest technology and state-of-the-art flooring have been incorporated, perfect for practicing this sport.”

“Golden” occasion for the base

In addition, the Minister stressed that the celebration of this tournament in Ibiza “represents a golden opportunity for players of basic badminton categories who will have the opportunity to experience a professional tournament first-hand, as an audience, as volunteers of the organization and, even, as players, given that there are some Ibizan athletes with options to qualify ».

The meeting held yesterday morning was also attended by the island director of Tourism Promotion, Juan Miguel Costa, who explained that “holding this event in Ibiza after the peak months of the tourist season will allow us to continue to position our island as a high-level sports destination, extend the season and send the message to all of Europe that Ibiza does not close when the summer ends.
