Hamburg Towers: Caleb Homesley is lucky

He had set 30 litters on the ring. No, the games against Bamberg and Berlin did not help to increase Caleb Homesley’s self-confidence. At his gala against Bonn, however, the man from North Carolina underlined that it was an absolute stroke of luck to bring him to Hamburg.

At first, it was not clear to the Bundesliga leaders either that Homesley would finish this game (92:80) with a personal record (33 points). The 25-year-old made mistakes – in the end it was 14 – but above all he never let himself be discouraged. And was rewarded.

But he only accepted congratulations because the team had won. His personal statistics are secondary. He does what he has to do. “No matter if scoring, rebounding, defending,” says Homesley. “This time the points were very important and that also helped us to win.” Five assists and three steals garnished the top performance of the 1.98-meter man, who due to the injuries of Jaylon Brown and Justus Hollatz, who are still out , is almost forced to play through. The fourth-best BBL thrower (16.9 points on average) was recorded in the last two games in 76 of 80 possible minutes.

“We didn’t have much more options than Caleb,” says coach Pedro Calles, who also knows that given such performances it could be difficult to keep the shooting guard in Hamburg beyond the end of the season. Homesley had discovered the Towers in the G League. There he had played for the Erie BayHawks in Pennsylvania because the dream of the NBA had not come true.
