Giants fire Joe Judge after two years in New York

The retirement of general manager Dave Gettleman, who served four years in the Giants, represented the perfect opportunity for the Mara family will start a new process at MetLife Stadium.

According to information from Ian Rapoport, from NFL Network, the Giants determined to cut their employment relationship with the head coach Joe Judge after two seasons at the club.

“Steve Tisch (co-owner of los Giants) and I believe that it is best for the franchise to take another direction, “John Mara said in a statement.” We met with Joe yesterday afternoon to discuss the situation of the team. I met with Joe again this afternoon and during the conversation I informed him of our decision. We appreciate Joe’s effort. “

The firing of Joe Judge was short-lived. During Gettleman’s retirement announcement it was reported that Joe Judge would remain in New York for the 2022 season.

Giants executives have shown little patience in their three most recent tenures. Before Judge, Ben McAdoo and Pat Shurmur only had the opportunity to direct two seasons respectively; In that span, he posted a 23-41 record and a playoff appearance (2016).

Justified dismissal

Judge’s departure comes two years after taking the reins of the Giants; during this period the “G-Men” went 10-23. The most worrying thing about Judge’s management was the ineffectiveness that the club showed in a couple of seasons.

In both 2020 and 2021 the Giants were the second worst offense in the NFL. The most important setback was in defense; last season they finished as the ninth-best unit in the league and this year they fell to the twenty-third rung.
