German Baseball Academy PONY European qualification tournament

Let’s just assume that the European qualifier for the PONY World Series in the USA will actually take place as planned from April 20th. until April 24th will take place in Prague. (The same applies to COLT: also in Prague, same date).

Jan Drabek, the organizer of the Eagles in Prague, who has been playing this huge event with a total of over 30 teams – spread over four baseball facilities – confidently and professionally for years, has just confirmed to me on the phone that the date is set. Of course, in these times of the pandemic, you never know….

PONY stands for Protect THEur Nation`s Youth and all age groups have something to do with horses like pony, bronco, colt, palomino etc.

The German Baseball Academy was there from the start, is a founding member of the European PONY family and this year we even registered for three age groups:

PONY in Prague: Players born on or after August 1, 2007 are eligible to play

COLT in Prague: Eligible to play are players born on or after August 1st, 2005

PALOMINO in Stuttgart (May): Players born on or after August 1st, 2003 are eligible to play

The DBA was able to win the qualifier several times against strong European competition, so we have been to the PONY World Series in Washington, PA near Pittsburgh, the headquarters of PONY or in LaFayette, Indiana at the COLT World Series, which has meanwhile moved to Marion, IL. It was always a great experience to be able to compete against the best teams from the USA or from Japan or Taiwan, Mexico or Puerto Rico or just to see and get to know them. The World Series is now being broadcast on MLB.TV, which is significant worldwide.

First of all, however, it is important to win the European Qualifier in Prague and that is a challenge, because the Czech national team, the Czech academy, academies from the Netherlands, national teams from Israel and Austria, Italians, Russians and others have also set themselves the goal of PONY European Champion to fly to the USA.

This year these guys will represent the DBA and thus German baseball at PONY. Congratulations.

Coaches and supervisors: Dominik Buder, Henry Matzpreiksch, Francesca Moser, Udo Happ (also Colt)

The named players are still being written to and three possible substitutes have been determined if one or the other is prevented.
