General Assembly considers Covid rules, KV Mechelen (in principle) plays against RC Genk with reservations | Jupiler Pro League

Jupiler Pro LeagueAll professional clubs will meet on Tuesday at 2 pm for an Extraordinary General Meeting. With the agenda item: the rules regarding postponing matches due to Covid-19.

KV Mechelen did not receive a postponement last Saturday, while it seemed to meet the requirements with two infected goalkeepers (Coucke and Wenssens). However, the Pro League regarded Wenssens as a U21 goalkeeper and did not count him. The Extraordinary General Meeting will meet digitally at 2 pm. It is expected that the current Covid rules will be amended and clarified. For example, it will no longer matter whether a player is on the Squad Size List A or Squad Size List B (which often includes young people). The rule that field players only count if they have accumulated at least 30% of the playing minutes remains in effect.

If approved, however, the chance is small that KV Mechelen can immediately appeal not to play against Genk on Wednesday evening. Malinwa hopes that these will be introduced retroactively, so that it can still catch up with the game against OHL. If that does not happen, the club will receive a forfait defeat, which they will most likely challenge legally.

KV asks for a postponement again

And what about the duel between Racing Genk and KV Mechelen on Wednesday? The Limburgers are understanding, but postponing the match together with Malinwa is impossible, because they would also risk sanctions. KV Mechelen will receive the results of the last test round today. However, it is already clear that goalkeepers Coucke and Wenssens are still positive. The club is again asking for a postponement from the Pro League. Just like before the game against OHL. The chance that the Pro League will suddenly grant a postponement is virtually non-existent. And so RC Genk-KV Mechelen will in principle continue. Malinwa, who has a reliable replacement for Coucke in Yannick Thoelen, will play subject to change.
