Former Turkish national football team Chalik has died in a car accident

Ahmed Yilmaz Chalik, a former defender of the Turkish national football team, has been killed in a car accident, his team, Konya’s Konyaspor, said on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old footballer was killed in a tragic accident on the road between Ankara and Nigdi on Tuesday. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our player, who has won the love of the fans and the city since the first day at our club,” Konyaspor said in a statement.

Chalik joined the Konya Club in 2020, coming from the famous Galatasaray unit. In the early days of his career, until 2017, the defender represented Ankara’s Gennlerbirligi.

In the Turkish national team from 2015 to 2017, Chalik played eight games and in his last match against Moldova scored his only goal in the national team. Chalik was a two-time Turkish champion, having occasionally triumphed in the Turkish Cup and Super Cup, and was part of the team in the 2016 European Championship.
