Football: CoV cases: Bavaria ask for postponement

Soccer

In view of the personnel emergency caused by a total of nine coronavirus cases with the German Football League (DFL), Bayern Munich discussed a postponement of the home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday (8.30 p.m.). “That’s why we’re thinking about how we can play the game and have discussed the situation with the DFL,” said Bayern sports director Hasan Salihamidzic on Wednesday.

Bayern currently have nine professionals who have tested positive. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Bouna Sarr are also assigned to the Africa Cup. According to the DFL game regulations, at least 15 licensed players and / or amateurs / contract players who are authorized to play in the licensed team must be available. On Wednesday, coach Julian Nagelsmann had ten healthy field players and three goalkeepers in team training in Munich.

Marcel Sabitzer was there, and Joshua Kimmich is also about to make a comeback after a two-month coronavirus break, most recently due to lung problems after a Covid 19 disease. Bayern currently have nine players who tested positive for the corona virus, from captain and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to offensive player Leroy Sane. Alphonso Davies is the latest coronavirus case in the German record champions. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Bouna Sarr are also assigned to the Africa Cup.

Omicron wave is a headache

Should Davies be infected with the Omikron variant, “the health department must decide on a quarantine for other players”, according to “BILD” chief reporter Tobias Altschäffl, who reported that the Bayern players participating in the training split into three Cabins moved, but contact between Davies and his teammates could of course not be avoided.

There seems to be no postponement of the first half of the second half of the season in the Bundesliga. “There is a set of rules that we will adhere to like everyone else,” remarked Salihamidzic about the DFL game rules in the coronavirus pandemic. At this point in time, the former Bayern player did not yet know that Davies had also been infected. Accordingly, Nagelsmann only has nine field players available.

Gladbach also originally assumed that the game would take place. “The Bundesliga ultimately decides whether the game takes place or not,” said Gladbach’s coach Adi Hütter. He continues to prepare his team for a staging in the Munich arena.
