Flowers, Zanotta and Roberts, the high notes of Peñarol’s classic triumph

The game, even, discreet but emotional, was defined with a memorable triple by American Justin Flowers with 18 seconds to go in the match when everything seemed that the tricolor was going to win the classic.

Flowers was the best player on the court with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

The pivot threw 11 triples and got 6 in an unforgettable night.

The other great figure that Peñarol had was the base Salvador Zanotta, who was the architect of all the reactions that Pablo López’s team had. Former Hebraica Maccabi entered to rescue the aurinegro from his worst moments and signed a list of 15 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.

Because of the parity he maintained throughout the game, Martin Aguilera He made merits to get on the Peñarol podium. He defended Dominique Morrison very well for several stretches ofthe game, was the one that set the tone for the team’s defense, he dropped 7 rebounds and was effective every time he took shots: 1 of 3 in triples and 3 of 4 in doubles.

However, by the way the classic ended it was Lee Roberts who ended up as another of the great highlights of the meeting.

The American who played the 2019-2020 and 2021 leagues in Aguada had a weak game in attack with 9 points. But in the defense of the last ball he became a giant against Santiago Moglia. First he closed the way to the rim and forced a bad shot and then when Moglia got the rebound he put a terrible plug which ensured victory.

Roberts already proved in Aguada that he is a committed player and that he always gives a plus in difficult situations.

Another good match was Diego Garcia with 7 assists, 7 rebounds and 6 points, product of two triples.

The one who was left in debt was the Panamanian Mike Rosario who shot for 42 points and only got four. He missed all 10 of his 3-point attempts and did not appear for the entire game.

Diego Soarez, Nicolás Borsellino, Gianfranco Espíndola and Mateo Giano were the other Peñarol players who added minutes in the rotation arranged by López.

In National, the best Quincy Miller with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.

Johndre Jefferson was the only man on the court with double figures: he had 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Manuel Romero completed the podium and was the best of the nationals with 7 points and 7 rebounds.

Morrison, rachero, scored 19 points with 5 of 15 in his shots from the field.

Santiago Moglia was in the must without scoring a single point.
