Andoni Azurmendi: “One can only be grateful for his great work and wish him the best of luck”

MADRID, 25 One. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The badminton coach Fernando Rivas has announced that he is leaving the Spanish Federation (FESBA) “due to a need for change”, but has clarified that he will continue to be the coach of the former Olympic champion Carolina Marín, as announced by the coach himself on his networks on Tuesday social.

Fernando Rivas has communicated this resignation to FESBA and its president, Andoni Azurmendi. “Today I have officially communicated to FESBA and its president, Andoni Azurmendi, the decision to disassociate myself from the federation. I want to publicly convey my gratitude to FESBA for all these years of joint work,” he said in his note.

Rivas recalled that it began in 2004 with the then president Manuel Hernández and that with the “impulse” of his successor, David Cabello, in office until 2020 “he entrusted a young and enthusiastic badminton coach with the task of directing the CAR.”

“Later, this trust was strengthened for years with David Cabello at the helm. Together we achieved successes that I would never have imagined when I started my career. To this, personal ties have been added with people who will always be part of my life,” he said.

As explained by the coach from Granada, the decision to leave the federation is motivated “by a need for change, personally and professionally.” “I would like to add at this point that I will continue to be the coach of Carolina Marín, regardless of the new professional path that begins. Together we began a process years ago that has not finished. We have shown many times that limits do not exist and that is what we want to do once more,” he said.

For his part, the president of FESBA, Andoni Azurmendi, said that one can only be grateful to Rivas “for his great work and wish him the best of luck in his new journey.” “Although he leaves the federation, Fernando has already commented that he will stay by Carolina’s side and, therefore, his relationship with Spanish badminton and with the federation itself will continue to be very close,” he said.
