Euroleague – duty fulfilled – sport

On paper it was a straightforward matter. Bayern Munich’s basketball players met the Euroleague bottom Zalgiris Kaunas in their own hall on Tuesday, Lithuania’s top club has only won three of 17 games on the international stage this season. Bayern are at least in midfield with eight wins from 18 games, but have to be careful not to lose sight of eighth place, which is the last place for the playoffs. The Munich team began the game with a correspondingly focused approach, and even if their concentration waned alarmingly until shortly before half-time, they brought Kaunas the next defeat. In the end it was 74:65 (34:33) for Bayern, where Ognjen Jaramaz (16 points) was the best scorer. Captain Vladimir Lucic (12) Andreas Obst and Augustine Rubit (11 each) also scored double-digit points. 48 hours after the sobering Bundesliga home defeat against Chemnitz, the Munich team managed to make amends in the top-class European club competition. It was also Bayern’s first win after three defeats in a row. On Thursday they expect a direct competitor in the dense midfield in the next Euroleague home game: AS Monaco.
