Spaniard Rafael Nadal has reached the semifinals of the Australian Open for the seventh time. After a tough five-set fight against Denis Shapovalov, the Spaniard can continue to dream of winning the title in Melbourne.

The 35-year-old apparently had to go into a fifth round in Melbourne on Tuesday after leading 2-0 in sets against Canadian Denis Shapovalov, but fought his way to a 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6 6th place :3. In the fight for a place in the final, Nadal will face Italian Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini or Frenchman Gael Monfils on Friday. Nadal is aiming for his 21st Grand Slam title, which would make him the sole record winner of the four major tournaments.

Keys defeats a battered Krejcikova

Madison Keys also reached the semifinals. The unseeded American clearly won 6:3, 6:2 against the Czech French Open winner Barbora Krejcikova. In her second Melbourne semi-final after 2015, Keys meets world number one Ashleigh Barty from Australia or her compatriot Jessica Pegula.

World number four Krejcikova looked battered at temperatures around 30 degrees. When the score was 2-5 in the first set, she had herself examined and her blood pressure measured. Keys, only 51st in the ranking, underlined their serve strength with eleven aces and convinced with powerful play. Keys lost to Serena Williams in the semifinals seven years ago. Her best Grand Slam result so far came in 2017 when she reached the final of the US Open against her compatriot Sloane Stephens.
