World champion Gerwyn Price from Wales managed the perfect game at the Darts World Cup in London and was eliminated from the most important tournament in the world. The 36-year-old world number one succeeded in the quarter-finals against Michael Smith late on Saturday evening with a nine-tharter (nine throws from 501 to zero points), but then lost the high-class duel with the English world-class player just 4: 5.

Smith will face his compatriot James Wade in the semifinals on Sunday, who had already bought his ticket for the semifinals with a clear 5-0 win over Mervyn King that afternoon.

In the second duel of the semifinals there is a Scottish duel between Peter Wright (5: 4 against Callan Rydz) and Gary Anderson (5: 2 against Luke Humphries). The grand finale of the Darts World Championship in Alexandra Palace will then take place on Monday.

Third nine-darter means tournament record

Price’s ninth starter went down in the history books, he was already the third at the current World Cup, something like this has never happened in the history of the tournament. Before that, the Scot William Borland (December 17th) and the Lithuanian Darius Labanauskas (December 18th) had played the perfect game. Borland even decided his first round game against the Englishman Bradley Brooks.
