Cinema Series in Puebla will screen Akira Kurosawa films for free

From Tuesday 11 to 15 January, Puebla will host the film series “Akira Kurosawa”, a selection of seven Japanese feature films that will be screened at the Cinematheque “Luis Buñuel”, as reported by the Ministry of Culture.

Through the program Promotion of Mexican Cinema (FOCINE) of the Federal Government, the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE) and the state agency promote the projection of international feature films not only in the entity but in other states of the country such as Campeche, Michoacán, Nayarit, Chiapas and Mexico City, to name a few.

What feature films will be available?

During the film season, citizens will be able to see films such as:

“The legend of judo” | Japan | 1943 | 80 min | C | 1883:

In the early Meiji era, Sanshiro Sugata is a disciple of Shogoro Yano, a judo master. Throughout your learning and your battles you will learn the fundamental principles and values ​​of a philosophy that will allow you to guide your steps in life.

Yojimbo the mercenary ”| Yojimbo the bodyguard | Japan | 1961 | 110 min | B:

In the 19th century, in a still feudal Japan, a samurai arrives at a town, where two bands of mercenaries fight each other for control of the territory. Very soon the newcomer shows signs of being an invincible warrior, so the leaders of the two bands try to hire his services.

Other feature films that will be screened are “Live”, “Scandal”, “The seven samurai”, “Red beard”, and “Kagemusha: The shadow of the warrior”, all by Japanese director Akira Kurosawa, considered by film experts as one of the most influential filmmakers in the world.

Whom Akira Kurosawa?

Kurosawa is known for using telephoto lenses in his work, obsessed with framing, light and costumes; achieved film creations that are currently considered masterpieces such as “The seven samurai” Y “Rashomon”. Another peculiarity of the style of this director was his habitual use of the meteorological elements in his films (rain, snow, heat and cold).

Akira Kurosawa was one of Japan’s most famous film directors and his filmography consists of films shot over five decadesDuring his career, he was awarded at festivals such as Berlin, Venice, Cannes or Moscow and recognized in ceremonies such as the BAFTAs or the Oscars, which, in 1990, awarded him the honorary Oscar for his career.
