Chile said goodbye to the ATP Cup with a positive balance

With a positive balance in Group A, Chile finished the 2022 edition of the ATP Cup. The team led by Jorge Aguilar beat Norway 2-1 and finished the competition with two wins and one defeat. Alejandro Tabilo (139º) took over the first point of the series; Casper Ruud (8th) stamped parity and the doubles gave the South American team victory.

Despite the bitter taste of the elimination, the Chileans left a very good feeling in the city of Sydney with a very outstanding victory against Serbia (without Djokovic), a predicted loss to the Spain (without Rafael Nadal) and a triumphant closing against Norway.

It is worth noting the performance of Alejandro Tabilo, who step by step is increasing in confidence and establishing himself on the front page of world tennis. On the fifth day of the competition, he surpassed by 6-1, 6-7 (5) and 6-1 to Viktor Durasovic and then sentenced the series in the doubles, playing partner with Tomás Barrios Vera, a pair that seems to have been consolidated.

The South American couple categorically beat the Nordic duo made up of Andreja Petrovic and Leyton Rivera with partials of 6-4 and 6-0 and left behind the defeat of Cristian Garin, the best tennis player on the team, who was far from his best tennis. “Gago” presented ups and downs throughout the tournament and he said goodbye with a clear defeat to Casper Ruud by 6-4 and 6-1 in less than an hour and a half of play.

In his previous engagements, the world ranking No. 17 fell in singles to Spanish Roberto Bautista Agut and then beat Serbian Dusan Lajovic in the second series.
