CAN: Tunisia eliminates Nigeria, reduced to ten, and joins Burkina Faso in quarter

Sunday evening, in Garoua, the Carthage Eagles eliminated Nigeria, reduced to ten, 1-0 in the round of 16. Former Eupen striker Youssef Msakni scored the only goal at Stade Omnisport Roumdé Adjia in the 47th minute. Barely on the game (59th), Alex Iwobi was sent off after seven minutes of play, forcing the Super Eagles to play ten for the last twenty-four minutes.

Nigeria fielded several players who played in the Jupiler Pro League: William Troost-Ekong, Moses Simon and Taiwo Awoniyi (all ex-Gantoise) and Wilfred Ndidi (ex-Genk). Former Zulte Waregem player Peter Olayinka entered the game on the hour mark.

Tunisia fielded Standardman Hamza Rafia for the first seventy minutes.

In the quarterfinals, Tunisia will face Burkina Faso, who, earlier in the day, were the first to reach the quarterfinals after a shootout (7-6, 1-1 after extra time) at the expense of Gabon.
