CAN: Mali wins against Tunisia after an incredible end to the match

Led to the score against Mali and throwing its last forces into the battle, Tunisia experienced a surreal end to the meeting on Wednesday for its entry into the African Cup of Nations. Referee Janny Sikazwe whistled the end of the match as the time clocked 89 minutes and 45 seconds, leaving no extra time. Five minutes earlier, the Zambian had already stopped the game before realizing his mistake. Stoppage time was not lacking in a second period marked by a penalty, a red card and several changes. Mali emerges victorious from this first duel, in general misunderstanding (1-0).

A rather logical result in view of the first 50 minutes. Dominators, the Malians started by stifling their opponents. If they lacked precision in the last gesture, like a header from Kouyaté (13th) or a shot from Massadio Haïdara in the small net (40th), they were logically rewarded after the rest. Guilty with a hand in the box on a shot from Kouyaté, Skhiri conceded a penalty converted by Koné (48th). A handful of minutes later, Adama Traoré was close to making the final break but tried to hook rather than shoot (51st).

Khazri missed the equalizer penalty

In the hard, the Tunisians were able to count on Khazri to launch the revolt. The Stéphanois was first noted on a lob attempt of which he has the secret (51st). Then by pushing Mounkoro to a stop on a free kick (56th). The Malian goalkeeper was going to be the strong man at the end of the match. Attentive on a long shot from Bronn (65th), he especially rejected a penalty from Khazri after Djenepo was sanctioned with a new hand in 16 meters (77th). Far from being sovereign to hold its result – El Bilal Touré expelled for a sole on Bronn (87th) – Mali can be considered happy.

Tunisia refuses to resume

More than twenty minutes after the end of the match, the decision of the Zambian referee was finally overturned and a restart had been decided. Problem, only the Malian players appeared on the lawn, their Tunisian counterparts having refused to resume. Replacing Janny Sikazwe, who did not return to the field after the long interruption, the 4th referee confirmed the victory of Mali.
