SPORT BILD took a look at all Bundesliga teams. The big balance after the first half of the season: Which players crashed.
BAVARIA: Kimmich annoys himself the most
In terms of sport, the season got off to an outstanding start for midfielder Joshua Kimmich (26): In eleven league games he scored three times and scored four goals. To do this, he extended his contract until 2025. Then the vaccination debate began: Kimmich did not get vaccinated – which is his right – and explained his position. The sporting consequences: He has not played since November 6 because of quarantine breaks and his own infection. That hurts no one more than the ambitious Kimmich himself!
On ZDF he revealed how he felt in this exceptional situation: “The bad conscience is definitely there. First and foremost, of course, to my family, who had to listen to a lot. DORTMUND: Moukoko has been fighting since March
A year ago, the whole league was eagerly awaiting the first appearances of BVB prodigy Youssoufa Moukoko. At the age of 16 he became the youngest player in history – but the first twelve months were anything but optimal. Main reason: Since an ankle injury in March, he has not been able to get 100 percent on his feet, only accumulated 97 league minutes under new coach Marco Rose (45). In doing so, he prepared a gate. Things can only get better in the second half of the season.
LEIPZIG: 15 million Moriba just a sham star
Leipzig paid 15 million euros for Barça talent Ilaix Moriba (18) in the summer. He came up with six short appearances and is only noticeable because of his star attitude. The midfielder has turned his back on the Spanish association, for which he played up to the U19, and will now play for his native Guinea. He should make his debut at the Africa Cup in January.
STUTTGART: Klement voluntarily in the 4th division
Philipp Klement (29) wanted to make a new attempt after a moderate season – that failed. Eight times he did not make it into the squad, otherwise he is only a bench press. Most recently, the offensive player went voluntarily to the 2nd team (4th league) in order to gain match practice.
HERTHA: Boateng is only strong in criticizing
Eleven appearances, no goal, no assist. But four yellow cards in a total of only 366 Bundesliga minutes. The (performance) data of Kevin-Prince Boateng (34) cause despair among all Hertha fans. When the prodigal son returned to Hertha after 14 years in the summer, the joy was enormous. As the leader on and off the pitch, he should shine and finally lead Hertha upstairs.
The reality looks different: Boateng is only really strong in criticizing. After the 0: 4 in Mainz, in which he himself only did two sprints in 45 minutes – he said: “We didn’t get into the game at all, from the first to the last minute. There is no improvement in sight at Boateng. His body can only withstand the stress of the Bundesliga with great difficulty. He can often no longer keep up with the pace. LEVERKUSEN: Paulinho missed his last chance
The Brazilian Paulinho (21) only played over 90 minutes once in the first half of the season. The winger has speed and good technique, but is not strong enough for a permanent place. Despite the contract until 2023, the separation is due in the summer. This is the last chance for Leverkusen to get back part of the 18.5 million euros in 2018.

GLADBACH: Only one Thuram shot on goal
Sometimes the numbers say it all: striker Marcus Thuram (24) only played 427 minutes in the league this season, scored no goal, did not prepare a goal, did not even prepare a big chance for his team, only fired twelve shots on goal, of those only one came on the opposing goal. He makes an average of 41.1 ball contacts per 90 minutes. Last summer, his move to Inter Milan was canceled due to a torn knee ligament. He is now still the number one transfer candidate, Gladbach wants to sell the French.
EINTRACHT: Younes crashed completely
In March, Amin Younes (28) was still a key player at Eintracht and made three international matches. Then trouble with colleagues and a contract extension, plus a failed move to Saudi Arabia. Because he skipped training afterwards, he has been released from work since September. Most recently he negotiated with Genoa.
MAINZ: Brosinski only left out
He can play right or left, but of all four Mainz full-backs, Daniel Brosinski (33) was by far the fewest minutes (233) in the first half of the season. He’s been with the club for seven and a half years. Looks like his expiring contract won’t be renewed.
BOCHUM: Bella-Kotchap only replacement
U21 national player Armel Bella Kotchap (20) was placed in central defense in the promotion season. He is considered to be the great top talent at VfL. After a poor start he lost his place and was only allowed to play two minutes in the last ten games. Without him, Bochum marched into midfield.
UNION: Van Drongelen nur Defender Nr. 5
After a difficult season at HSV due to injuries, Rick van Drongelen (23), who cost 500,000 euros in the transfer fee, wanted to get back on track at Union Berlin. Conclusion after the first series: no use, only five times in the Bundesliga squad. The Dutchman is clearly defender number 5.
COLOGNE: Katterbach is to be awarded
Noah Katterbach (20) was only in the squad at 0: 5 in Hoffenheim and was allowed to play for 15 minutes. What a slump in home grown! Under former coach Markus Gisdol (52), the full-back was still a regular and top performer. Now he should be loaned out to get match practice.
AUGSBURG: Gruezo has to worry about the World Cup
Clearer Carlos Gruezo (26) has a hard time: He is no longer seated at the head office, access Niklas Dorsch (23) sorts the midfield with more ideas and creativity, there is also competition, including from Arne Maier (22). Gruezo has to fear for his place in Ecuador’s World Cup squad.
FREIBURG: Heintz only defender No. 6
Last season Dominique Heintz (28) was allowed to play 21 times for Freiburg, this season he is only center-back number six! WOLFSBURG: Weghorst leaves when a club bids 20 million

His fourth league appearance was the first in the starting line-up for Mijat Gacinovic (26) – and his last ever. Since the 0: 2 against Mainz in September, the Serbian all-rounder was only allowed to play for twelve minutes in the cup (5: 1 against Kiel). The ex-Frankfurter is to be awarded.
