The handball players from the Bundesliga club TuS Metzingen discovered cameras in their dressing room with which they were obviously being observed. A similar case had previously become known from Buchholz in Lower Saxony.

It is the second case of this kind that has been uncovered in recent times: at the beginning of the week, the handball players of the Bundesliga club TuS Metzingen discovered two hidden cameras in their changing room. A similar case had previously become known, in which the Buchholz 08-Rosengarten players discovered cameras in the showers of the guest and home cabins.

In the case in Metzingen, the police quickly identified a person from the immediate vicinity of the team who is now under strong suspicion. The Metzinger announced this on Thursday. The cooperation with this person was immediately terminated.

“Disgusting Act” by Trustee

“This disgusting act – also by a direct person of trust – is just shocking and has affected us all very much,” said manager Ferenc Rott. He was “impressed” by the solidarity of the players and their joint decision to play the game against SG BBM Bietigheim. TuS lost this on Wednesday at 20:32 (13:20).

“We won’t let something like that get us down – and the fact that the team wants to play handball again immediately is a very strong signal,” Rott continued. “During these difficult times, we received a lot of support from the police, the association and other teams. That helps, of course, and we are grateful for that.”

Association assures full support

The Handball Bundesliga Women (HBF) reacted “shocked” and assured TuS “full support”. “We condemn this reprehensible act in the strongest possible terms,” it said in a statement on Thursday. “Such a criminal act contradicts all the values that we as HBF represent together with our clubs.”

The second case in Bucholz, Lower Saxony, was discovered in September 2021 and became known last week. There the women had discovered a kind of “dummy switch in the wet area, behind which there was a camera”, as the NDR writes. The alarmed police finally found another camera in the guest showers. In the case there is a suspicious man who is 55 years old and whose apartment was then searched. The discovery of the cameras shocked the team and him, said Sven Dubau, managing director of the handball Bundesliga club from Buchholz.
