BC DKC reduces chances of VELO Badminton – Sportshoots.nl

The VELO Badminton badminton players drew twice in the double weekend. Saturday’s match against Drop Shot was like a victory by stealing four points from the strong team of the Hagenaars. However, the euphoria was short-lived due to the draw in the away game at Dunlop DKC. Not playing the leader Nick Fransman, obligations in the German league, and the sick Milou Lugters was just a bit too much for coach Franklin Telwin’s team to get the necessary profit points.

Velo started the game well, winning both the men’s and women’s doubles. Ruben Kweekel also earned a point by beating the talented Andy Buijk. However, Dion Rovers had to bow in three sets for the experienced Michiel Kruijt. The ladies of VELO badminton Hanna Couwenhoven and Fredrika Lagerstedt had to leave the win to Marlies Baan and Manon Sibbald respectively. With a score of 3-3, the mix-matches were an important closing to achieve the win. Both VELO and DKC knew that the two extra points were also important to increase the semi-final chance.
The mixed doubles of VELO, Jim Middelburg and Myke Halkema was quickly decided with 13-21 and 12-21 against Gijs Duijs and Charissa Kuiper. The well-playing Andy Buijk and Kiona van der Werf took the win in three sets against Veda Diemel and Russell Muns. The 4-4 was reached with this one, but with mixed feelings for both teams.

Despite the disappointing result, Velo continues to hold onto third place in the championship group. The deficit of Dunlop DKC is now unbridgeable, 6 points on Duinwijck, who have played one game less. The deficit of VELO Badminton, two points on Duinwijck, can become very exciting in the direct confrontation on Saturday.
