Basketball Bundesliga: Alba Berlin leaves Würzburg no chance

Alba Berlin ended the year with a sovereign home win. On New Year’s Eve, the German champion finished off S.Oliver Würzburg with 96:61 (55:32) at home in front of 1,600 spectators.

Alba thus climbed back to fourth place in the basketball league. The best Berlin throwers were Marcus Eriksson with 17 and Yovel Zoosman with 15 points.

Coach Israel Gonzalez did without national players Maodo Lo, Ben Lammers and Tim Schneider. The Berliners started with high concentration and put Würzburg under pressure from the start. The hosts left little room, especially on the defensive. After a good two minutes, the lead was double-digit for the first time (13: 2).

Until the beginning of the second quarter, Alba was able to continue to set itself apart. The Berliners punished every mistake made by the overwhelmed Franks, who often only knew what to do with fouls. Würzburg was better offensive, but Alba didn’t let up. Around two minutes before the break, Christ Koumadje took a 30-point lead for the first time (52:22).

At the beginning of the second half, Würzburg reared up again briefly, but Alba nipped that in the bud. Eriksson came off the bench, quickly pocketed three three-point throws and then returned to the bench. The Berliners spared some regular employees and downshifted a few gears, but remained sovereign until the end.
