Canada’s Rebecca Marino beat Ukraine’s Kateryna Bondareko 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday in the second round of qualifying for the Australian Open.
The 31-year-old Ontarian will face the winner of the match between Russia’s Kamilla Rakhimova and Andorran Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva for a place in the main draw of the first major tournament of the season.
Marino dismissed Switzerland’s Ylena In-Albon in two identical 6-3 sets in the first round.
Marino reached the second round of the Australian Open last year, after an eight-year long absence from the majors.
