by archysport

Stefanie Vögele (WTA 147) passed the qualifying mark for the Australian Open for the third time. She joins Belinda Bencic, Jil Teichmann and Viktorija Golubic in the main draw.

In Melbourne, the Argovienne comes back almost from nowhere. She won 6-3 4-6 7-5 in front of the Dutch Indy De Vroome (WTA 252) after having dismissed two match points. It was, in fact, led 5-4 15-40 in the tenth game of the third set. At 5-5, she exploited the tenth double fault of her rival’s match to sign the decisive break. She then had to conclude with a shutout after 2h51 ‘of play.

Thanks to this success, Stefanie Vögele is guaranteed to receive at least a check for 140,000 Australian dollars – 93,000 francs -, an amount which corresponds to the “prize money” allocated to the players beaten in the first round of the grand chart.
