Bingen Pérez scored the winning basket against Baskonia in a very decisive match in the fight for the lead

CB Santurtzi starts the year in the best possible way. The purple team faced its first game of the year this past Saturday and, in turn, one of the most important of the entire season, without a doubt. They played on the Baskonia court, with which until that moment they shared co-leadership. The Santurtzitarras were aware of the difficulty of the crash and it really got really uphill. However, it ended up fulfilling a script worthy of a movie that everyone would have signed, especially Bingen Pérez. Brilliant comeback and triple winner on the horn of Bilbao to give a real blow to the table in his fight for the lead.

This is the third season that Bingen Pérez plays in the Santiago ranks after arriving from Zornotza at just 18 years old. The base tells EL CORREO that “I have found my place here.” At 20, he has been gaining prominence and improving his numbers. This relates it to the fact that “I am becoming calmer and more confident,” he argues. His improvement has been perceived by directing the team’s game and scoring from the line of three. “And that I’ve never been a shooter,” he adds. Now he is averaging two 3-pointers per game with an accuracy rate of 56.3 percent. Figures that confirm that, despite not being his strong point, he is doing very well in this area.

His contribution to the team is very clear, where all the pieces are fitting together perfectly. The result of this is the great campaign that the purple box is playing, which this past Saturday faced a great final. They, together with Baskonia, occupied the co-leadership and visited the Alava field. “You had to win yes or yes to hit the table,” says Bingen Pérez. However, they reached the fourth quarter nine points behind. That against a rival like this Alava subsidiary, many would have found it definitive. Not for santurtzitarras. “We turned him around by claw, pride and for not giving up the game for lost,” highlights the point guard.

With less than twenty seconds remaining, CB Santurtzi was four points behind. Jon Manjón reduced the difference by two, they stopped Baskonia’s attack with a foul and they missed both free throws. At that moment, Bingen Pérez receives the ball from Miguel Zamora and throws three on the horn. “I was not thinking at all, at the moment I receive it, I see a huge guy who comes to plug me and I threw as he could,” he recalls. The ball went inside and madness broke out. Epic comeback to give a triumph like no other to yours and a moment that you will never forget. “It is the most important basket I have ever made in my entire life,” he says.

Third postponement of the same match

This is the fifth consecutive victory for a CB Santurtzi that is like a shot. He is the solo leader with thirteen wins and only two losses. Therefore, it does not sound unreasonable that his goal is “to be first and sneak into the promotion phase”, as Bingen Pérez indicates. Today the santurtzitarras would have to resume their match against another direct rival like Cantbasket. He was suspended in his day at the end of the first quarter for the fainting of Óscar Cabrera and later for cases of COVID-19 in the purple ranks. The third time will not be the charm either. It has been postponed again. This time for several positives in the Cantabrian team. We will have to wait for a new date.
