Andreas Seppi had fought his way through the qualification with strong tennis at the ATP 250 tournament “Melbourne Summer Set” in Australia. But in the main field is the final destination for the 37-year-old.

For Andreas Seppi (ATP 102), the Melbourne Summer Set, which serves as preparation for the Australian Open, is the 400th ATP tournament of his career. But in the first round the Kalterer had to give up: Against the Slovak Alex Molcan (ATP 88) Seppi was defeated in a tough fight with 4: 6, 7: 6 (6), 3: 6 and is eliminated.

Before that, Seppi had fought his way through qualifying with two strong victories and qualified for the main field. Despite the defeat in the first round, the tennis veteran has reason to be happy: He has scored a lot of points again and will return to the top 100. In the live ranking he appears at position 96.

A hard-fought match

Seppi fought a grueling battle with Molcan. In the first set both players acted flawlessly with their own service, with one exception: Seppi gave up the serve in the fifth game and the Slovak pulled away. The second set was a bit more spectacular and had to be decided in the tie-break, where the Kalterer played out all his class and routine and converted his fourth set ball. So it went into the third section, where Seppi broke a conceded break to 3: 5 the neck.
