World number four Pliskova cancels for Australian Open

Melbourne (AP) – tennis player Karolina Pliskova will not be at the Australian Open.

The world number four from the Czech Republic canceled her start because of an injury to her right hand that she sustained in training, the organizers said. You will not be able to participate in the tournaments in Adelaide and Sydney or the Australian Open, said the 29-year-old. “I’m sad that I can’t start my season in Australia.”

Pliskova has reached the final of a Grand Slam tournament twice in her career. In 2016 she lost to Angelique Kerber in the final at the US Open.

Most recently, the American Serena Williams and Bianca Andreescu from Canada had already canceled the Australian Open. The first Grand Slam tournament of the year starts on January 17th.
