Steel will start in the first race with the 24th number in the competition of 26 participants. The 20 fastest will qualify for the second race.
Before the start of the races, the director of the competition Janika Judeika emphasized in an interview on Latvian Television that the Sigulda track must remain in the world, because falling out of the calendar immediately creates difficulties to return to the future. Therefore, regardless of the circumstances, Sigulda tries to organize competitions at the highest organizational level every year. The organization of the World Cup stage in Latvia started already in May, but the big challenge was to find additional people who would like to work during the anniversary celebrations, moreover, in covid conditions, Judeika added.
Later on Friday, men will compete in the skeleton, including Martin and Thomas Dukuri. In turn, on Saturday and Sunday, one competition for men’s bobsleigh for two. The women will start in monobobs on Saturday, while the ladies will compete in bobsleigh on Sunday.
The competition takes place without the presence of spectators, but LTV7 and replay.lv will be able to follow the course of all trips.
During the World Cup season in skeleton and bobsleigh, participants in eight stages until mid-January will also qualify for the Beijing Winter Olympics. The World Cup season after the race in Sigulda will end with the last two stages on the Winterberg track in Germany and St. Moritz in Switzerland. The Olympic Games in China will start on February 4.
