work began on the public volleyball court at Giardini Alimonda – Turin Today

Aurora is about to be enriched with a new sports facility completely free and open free of charge to all citizens who want to use it: this is the volleyball court in the Alimonda Gardens, “Promised” during the past legislature by theformer city planning councilor Antonino Iaria and currently under construction in an area too often represented exclusively as a source of degradation and petty crime.

Volleyball and badminton for everyone

The works have started in these days and will end, by design, by February: the playing rectangle will cost approx 67 thousand euros, will be entirely fenced (but only to prevent the balls from ending up in the street or risking hitting passers-by and visitors to the nearby playground, ed) and will also host games of badminton; the bottom, moreover, will be made with materials suitable for sports, while an enhancement of the lighting is also planned.

A path with associations

The volleyball court represents the final piece of a path carried out by several associations which gravitate to the area including BACK, main architect of the matches with theformer mayor Chiara Appendino and his Unia councilors and Iaria: “For 4 years – comments the president Giovanni Sepedewe have drawn the lines and put the net in order to play: having a real field is a great satisfaction because we believe that the redevelopment of the Gardens must take place through the involvement of everyone”.

By the way, the goal will be precisely that of bring more and more people together: “The police officers – conclude Sepede – they are only needed up to a certain point: the places to play sports in the neighborhood are scarce and if we manage to involve the kids who gravitate around the Gardens in these activities, maybe we can avoid them taking other roads”.
