The VfB squad is very young (23.4 years on average) and full of talent. But these could rarely develop their potential in the first half of the season. Where were the problems and what are the hopes that they will take off in the second half of the season?
BILD does the VfB U21 check.
Tanguy Coulibaly (20): The young Frenchman has made twelve appearances and was in the VfB starting line-up nine times. But found it difficult to get going after his corona infection. The result: only two templates. The fitness of the wing racer gives hope, who immediately after his vacation in Dubai trained again in the weight room.
Wahid Faghir (18): The Danish jewel cost VfB five million euros. And first of all had to slim down. Six missions, plus the last-minute hit against Union (1: 1). VfB coach Pellegrino Matarazzo (44) sees “a lot of potential” in Faghir. The next step is to become even stronger in the areas of fitness, stability and strength. “As BILD found out, VfB is still dissatisfied with the striker’s training performance.

Clinton Mola (20): Already injured in the previous season, he only made two appearances after his 60-second debut against Hoffenheim. According to BILD information, the Englishman was also infected with Corona. Unlucky Mola …
Omer White (18): The Turk with fine technique showed his skills in preparation. All the more sobering is the record of 35 Bundesliga minutes for VfB. Matarazzo after the Cologne game: “Throwing Ömer into such an important game would have been negligent.” But Beyaz needs match practice. The problem: As a non-EU foreigner, he is not allowed to play for VfB’s U21s.
Enzo Millot (19): The injured misery at VfB did not stop at him. Two short appearances at the beginning of the season, then the newcomer from Monaco tore his knee ligament. Millot has been out injured since mid-October, and now the Frenchman is about to return to team training.
Naouirou Ahamada (19): Bad luck sticks to his kick boots this season too. Initially stopped by a calf injury, Ahamada recently had problems with the Achilles tendon. But there is still hope of a comeback in the new year: “Naouirou will return to the team soon,” says VfB sporting director Sven Mislintat (49).

Momo Cisse (19) The offensive talent moved from Le Havre to VfB in 2020, but only has a measly 33 Bundesliga minutes due to numerous injuries. Problem: Cisse is training properly, but according to BILD information, the matarazzo is not enough. Since the competition at VfB is fierce, the Guinea striker could be loaned out this winter.
Lilian Egloff (19): THE top talent from his own offspring, but Egloff is prone to injury (including a metatarsal fracture). Most recently he had match practice with the U21s and even scored a goal shortly before Christmas. If Egloff finally stays healthy, Mislintat is “convinced that he has all the skills to develop into a very good player.”
