Tottenham Vs Rennes Not Rescheduled, Spurs Threatened To Get Out

Jakarta

The Europa Conference League match between Tottenham Hotspur vs Rennes will not be rescheduled. Now Antonio Conte’s squad is in danger of being eliminated from the event.

The match was supposed to be held on Thursday (9/12) evening local time, but was eventually postponed due to the COVID-19 storm that hit the Tottenham squad. Conte said there were at least 8 infected players, but the club has never confirmed the exact number.

Rennes initially did not accept the decision, especially since they had arrived in London. However, UEFA finally took the decision to postpone the match.

Efforts were made to find a replacement date. According to the rules, the match must be finished before December 31, 2021. But on Saturday (11/12), Sky Sports reported Tottenham, Rennes and UEFA could not find a replacement date, due to busy schedules until the end of the year.

“Unfortunately, a satisfactory solution for both clubs could not be found, despite every effort made,” read a UEFA statement.

“As a consequence, the match will no longer be playable, and this matter will be referred to the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body. A decision will be made based on Annex J of the competition rules,” the statement said.

If you refer to Appendix J, then Harry Kane et al will be declared defeated 0-3 because they cannot fulfill their playing obligations. The result will make the Spurs eliminated because they only finished third in Group G with 7 points, behind Rennes (14 points) and Vitesse Arnhem (10 points).

Even so, there has been no UEFA statement stating Tottenham lost. BBC report a decision will be taken next week. Spurs also do not want to comment on this.

UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body could reportedly take further action on this matter. Spurs will be checked whether they still have 13 players plus one goalkeeper available when requesting a postponement.

In fact, if that number is met, they are required to play. In addition, the judging panel will also look at the efforts of the two clubs to rearrange the match schedule.
