Thiem announces that he will not play the Australian Open

After announcing days ago that he would not participate in the ATP Cup and the Sydney Tournament, Dominic Thiem announced this Tuesday that he will withdraw from the next Australian Open due to his wrist injury, for which he has not competed for six months.

The 28-year-old Austrian has not played since he was injured at the Mallorca Open in June, where he left in the round of 16 match against Mannarino. His wrist problems prevented him from defending his US Open title and will leave him out of this first Grand Slam of the course 2022.

Thiem assured in the statement he posted on his social networks that he has decided to postpone his return to the slopes until the end of January, at the Córdoba Open, in Argentina. “After a short vacation, my team and I decided to make some changes to my initial tournament schedule: I will start at the Córdoba Open, in Argentina, at the end of January, and I will not play the Australian Open in Melbourne, a city that I love. and of which I have great memories of unforgettable matches. I will miss the Australian fans but I will be back in 2023, “said the Austrian tennis player.

“We believe that it is the correct decision to have a good return to the competition,” he added.
