There are already ten Barça men’s first team players with covid

BarcelonaBarça have announced that, in addition to Clément Lenglet, Dani Alves, Jordi Alba, Alejandro Balde, Samuel Umtiti, Ousmane Dembélé and Gavi, they have also tested positive for covid-19 Ez Abde, Philippe Coutinho and Sergiño Dest. Players are in good health and isolated at home. None of them will be available for the match on Sunday, January 2, 2022 in Son Moix, against Mallorca. Barça have detected their contagions in previous tests before returning to work after the Christmas break, which the squad began on December 21 after playing against Sevilla at the Sánchez Pizjuán.

The ten positives associated with the omicron variant are the first of this season at Barça, which had other cases of contagion such as Sergi Roberto, Umtiti (again), Todibo and Busquets, in his case, with the Spanish team during the concentration for the European Championship. Despite the exhaustive protocol to control the covid that Barça applies to its professional teams, often testing and monitoring both the players and their immediate environment, these cases are now coming as a new wave is affecting many clubs, including Real Madrid, who have had an outbreak of contagion in the locker room or Espanyol, which this Monday announced that it has detected seven positive covid (five players and two members of the coaching staff) of the first team in the PCR tests carried out this Sunday.

Several outbursts in League teams

The Royal Society has also reported that it has detected up to ten contagions of first team players, without the names being disclosed. The players are isolated and the tests correspond to the various PCRs that Real has done during the Christmas holidays. The protocol of the League establishes that with a minimum of five players of the first equipment the party can be played. Cadiz has also reported five positive players. The sixth wave hits the football world hard.

Rayo also announced a positive 12 weeks ago between players, coaching staff and managers. Iraola’s men play Atlético de Madrid this weekend, which in turn has announced five cases: Griezmann, Koke, Héctor Herrera, Joao Félix and coach Diego Pablo Simeone. Celta, who had announced four cases a few days ago, would have a fifth player infected, according to Galician television. Other teams in the league, such as Athletic Club, Betis, Osasuna and Levante, also had casualties in the last days before the holidays for detecting infections. In other countries, such as England, matches have recently been postponed due to coronavirus outbreaks.

Difficulties against Mallorca

The contagion and the consequent forty of the ten affected at Barça are a new headache for Xavi Hernández, as he has several casualties for the match against Mallorca. Egarenc could no longer count on Busquets or Gavi (also infected), both sanctioned for accumulating yellow cards. Injured Ansu Fati, Pedri (with a more advanced recovery process than the Spanish-Guinean striker), Memphis, Braithwaite and Sergi Roberto will also be out. The case of Alves is different, as he could not play against the Balearic team because he will not be able to be registered in the League until January 3. Therefore, what is in doubt with the Brazilian is his presence in the Cup match against Linares on January 5.

With four more first-team contagions before traveling to Son Moix, the league will have to suspend the game. Right now, a lineup like this would come out: Ter Stegen; Araujo, Piqué, Eric Garcia, Mingueza; Frenkie de Jong, Nico, Riqui Puig; Ilias, Luuk de Jong and Jutglà. And the bench, except for Neto, made up entirely of players from the branch.
