The tennis player from Rosario Federico Coria tested positive for coronavirus upon arrival in the city of Sydney, Australia, where the Argentine team will participate in the ATP Cup. The Rosario, number 63 in the world ranking, is without symptoms but his test was positive after arriving on the charter of the organization that left Ezeiza on December 27 and made a stopover in Santiago de Chile.
Coria will be tested again tomorrow to see if he can already be part of the team that will play the ATP Cup this Friday. If he cannot be, Fede will be replaced by Facundo Bagnis from Santa Fe.
Eleven days ago Coria had attended the wedding party of the Argentine tennis player Andrea Collarini, in Córdoba, which led to several positive cases, including the bride and groom and the Cordovan Juan Ignacio Londero.
The other player who was at the party and who is part of the ATP team is the doubles player Andrés Molteni, 46 in the world in the specialty, from whom news is expected in relation to the result of their testing. Andrés Schneiter, Coria’s coach, also awaits the result of his test.
If Coria tests positive again, he will remain isolated, although he would still make it to the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year, which begins on January 17 in Melbourne.
All the players and coaches who shared the charter flight with the Rosario and his team will have to undergo an antigen test periodically for the next four days, as decided by the organization in the event of a positive case.
The Argentine team is led by Diego Schwartzman (13 in the ranking) and captained by Alejandro Fabbri, one of his coaches (the other is Juan Ignacio Chela). If Coria cannot play, his place will be taken by left-handed Facundo Bagnis (76).
