The University celebrates the Paralympics and People with Disabilities Day

Live on the social channels UniMe, IusLaw Web Radio and Us ACLI Nazionale, Friday 3 December – starting at 9 am – there will be a webinar on “The Paralympics: a new narrative of disability”. The event, organized by the University of Messina and the AluMnime Association in partnership with Ius Law Web Radio, Radio dell’Avvocatura and the Sicilian Coordination of AIAS, is one of the events scheduled by the Municipality of Messina as part of the project “I am (dis) able and you?”. The meeting will be sponsored by the US ACLI Nazionale, Panathlon International, SSD UniMe Sport and CUG UniMe.

The initiative to be held on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, thus following the initiatives already undertaken (on the initiative of the Chair of Sports Law of the Department of Law of the University of Messina) since 2018, to relaunch and put the topic of the rights of the disabled is at the center of the debate. The meeting, organized by teachers Francesco Rende, Carlo Giannetto and Francesco Pira, will be dedicated to the Paralympics that have aroused so much interest during the past editions in the public of sports enthusiasts.

Among the guests, some of the protagonists of that experience: Lorenzo Roata, journalist and voice of Rai at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, Carolina Costa, Olympic bronze medal for visually impaired judo, Anna Barbaro, Olympic silver medal Paratriathlon. After the institutional greetings, the introductory talk will be given by prof. Rende (Associate of private law and sports law). The first round table will follow, dedicated to the Chronicles of the Paralympics and moderated by prof. Pira (UniMe Communication Delegate and Associate of Sociology of Cultural and Communicative Processes). In this regard, Dr. Roata and the lawyer Fabrizio Carbone (AIAS Sicily Communication Delegate).

The second round table, moderated by prof. Giannetto (CUG Vice President). Concetta Parrinello, full professor of private law and president of the CUG, and Fiammetta Conforto, delegate of the Rector to Disability and SLD Services will discuss the topic. The last series of reports will focus on the perspectives and criticalities of Paralympic sports.

To discuss it, with the moderation of the lawyer. Claudio Parlagreco (AIAS Sicily Coordinator), dr. Angelo Alito (Medical Director, Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine Unit – Messina Polyclinic), Giovanni Ficarra, World Rowing Champion, and the lawyer. Mario Vigna (Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the National Anti-Doping Prosecutor NADO Italy). After the interventions of the Paralympic athletes, the conclusions will be entrusted to the President of the CIP Guarantee Committee Renato Grillo.
