The new goals of Garbiñe Muguruza

This 2021 has not been a bad year in terms of titles for Garbiñe Muguruza. The difficulties caused by the pandemic did not stop Garbiñe. She won the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai in March, the WTA 500 in Washington in October and, in November, she became the first Spanish tennis player to win the WTA Finals. Muguruza reviews the season and confesses what his next goals are in an interview with RTVE.

A successful season

“The truth is that it has been a great year, and that has been hard because there have been a lot of protocols, bubbles, at first without an audience, then with some audience. It’s been a crazy season with the Olympics involved as well. It has been a year with many challenges, but at the same time, very successful for me ”.

Open de Australia

Muguruza holds the Roland Garros and Wimbledon titles and in 2020 he was about to expand his collection. This is how she remembered the Australian Open final, where she fell to Sofia Kenin despite winning the first set: “I was on the verge of the trophy in that final. It is a tournament that I like a lot because it is summer, it is Australia and the people there are very fond of sports and understand tennis ”.

The Adelaide tournament has been chosen by the tennis player to start next year, followed by Sydney, to arrive with filming for the first Grand Slam of the season, the Australian Open.

About number one

Muguruza reached first place in the ranking in 2017, currently number three: “I was there, now I am going to be there again, great, but I don’t want to obsess over it. I prefer to concentrate on winning tournaments and raising glasses, because you can touch that ”.

As a challenge to be reached in the next season, it is proposed to play the Masters again at the end of the year. We hope that he will repeat there and if it can be, that he will not be the only Spanish representative, that he will be together with Badosa as well.
