The international veteran tournament starts today in Cartagena with 44 teams

More than 500 players, 44 teams and a dozen nationalities. It is the spectacular summary of the attention aroused by MAMBA, the international basketball tournament for veterans with 100% Murcian DNA, which is now in its fifth edition and which, faithful to its promise to rotate its headquarters to disseminate the benefits of the Region of Murcia among its very diverse attendees, has chosen Cartagena for its fifth edition, which starts today.

The tournament, aimed at basketball players over 30 in the case of women, and 35 in the case of men, arose in its day at the initiative of the Triple-Doble association, headed by Murcian businessman Fernando Zaplana , a group of friends who participated in an international phenomenon on the rise until the arrival of the pandemic such as veterans basketball, and who, having played similar championships in Italy, Ireland or Finland, set out to create their own.

For this occasion, the port city will host matches in up to three pavilions and, for this December bridge in which they have managed to attract participants from very different parts of Europe -Russia, Poland, Germany, Italy or Great Britain are some of the countries represented- full capacity has been reached in Cartagena’s hotel occupancy.

Decyde Forum continues

At the same time that MAMBA starts, the Decyde Forum continues, a conference that revolves around health, well-being and sport as central themes and that are other of the activities of the organization, which for this occasion has wanted to unite its two star events. They are taking place on the UCAM campus and, among its speakers, stand out sports and communication figures such as Antoni Daimiel, Ona Carbonell, El Langui and Joseja Hombrados.
